MAISON CHRISTIAN LACROIX CREATES A COUTURE FLOOR AT THE MANDEVILLE HOTEL
Posted July 29, 2016
New designer rooms - Deluxe Riviera
It’s official! Enter a couture treat in the Centre of Marylebone as Maison Christian Lacroix has revived the Fifth Floor of The Mandeville Hotel with their renowned fabric and wallpaper collections.Traditionally, the House of Christian Lacroix has been famous for their flamboyant Haute Couture fashion scene in Paris and London, reinventing the word ‘iconic’. Since 2011, Maison Christian Lacroix has been exclusively designing for Designers Guild under the creative direction of Sacha Walckhoff creating the very finest in fabric and wallpaper collections, and home accessories. The interiors collection is complex and colourful and gives reference to historical couture and architecture, offering the ultimate in luxury chic.

What better partnership than with Marylebone’s design Hotel, The Mandeville Hotel. Highly regarded for its complete overhaul by Stephen Ryan, The Mandeville Hotel has been at the centre of a Marylebone trend, and now even more so. Each collection from Maison Christian Lacroix tells a story and The Mandeville’s will be telling that of the wonderfully decadent French Riviera, using the Belles Rives collection as the inspiration for this redesign. From the Croisette’s fashionable ladies who co-existed at Jean Cocteau’s famous “Santo Sospir” Villa in Southern France to Grace Kelly’s classic film ‘To Catch a Thief’. This all brings together the bold, fresh and vivid colours used from the minute you enter the floor with flamboyant candy-stripe corridors and leopard skin cut velvet to each bedroom.

Botanical Garden
This spectacular room takes inspiration from Monaco's Botanical Garden, The Jardin Exotique. Tropical, exotic, lush and fresh, designed with palm trees on the curtains and wallpapers called Jardin Exo’Chic, and colourful blues, reds, pinks and yellows handcrafted into the fabrics, all accentuated with Julian Chichester Pineapple lamps. Set against classic Lacroix black and white striped wallpaper brings to mind the deckchairs and awnings on the Riviera, Breton stripe shirts as well as the outfits of the toreadors and matadors from Lacroix’s hometown, an area of France inspired by Spain.

Midnight Blue
A contrasting room brings a sultry, sexy and romantic mood to the Fifth Floor. The marbled wallpaper is ‘Bain de Minuit’, inspired by the clandestine Sea-Bathing Society of the same name that met at night in the sea of Monaco. On the opposite wall, there’s a touch of humour with a nod towards Princess Grace’s “Pearl” necklace that calls to mind the jewels stolen in La Main au Collet as Hitchcock’s muse. The Jardin Exo'Chic palm leaves are here shown at night, with a touch of Pink and a hint of exoticism.

The Jewel Box
For the true fashionistas, this room shows the Cartier jewels stolen from Grace Kelly in whimsical colours and bejewelled designs. The lace and mantillas worn by women in The Camargue in Spain inspires the Macarena lace wallpaper around the room, balanced with classic Lacroix silver and black striped wallpaper, a true haven for textile and fashion lovers.

Classic Lacroix
Light, airy and romantic, Lacroix’s hometown of Arles features scenes around this room. Spanish tiles ‘Azulejos’ in a light pearl finish representing the Spanish border influences of Lacroix’s growing up are contrasted with embroidered silk designs to look like the patterns on 'Talleguilla' or bullfighters breeches. The upholstery is in the classic Lacroix motif of Paseo Doble, named after the firey Spanish dance. “We are thrilled that Maison Christian Lacroix has transformed the Fifth Floor of the stunning Mandeville Hotel. The collection has been used with great expertise and huge aplomb to create a wonderfully exotic and breathtaking space to stay," says the design team for Designers Guild. According to Sacha Walckhoff, Creative Director of Maison Christian Lacroix, “Bringing the flavour of the French Riviera in the middle of Marylebone is what the Mandeville will experience a design treat so beautiful they may never want to leave.
